Some of the most beloved holiday films of all time debuted in the 90s, becoming staples for family viewing. When the decade kicked off with a classic like “Home Alone” in 1990, the bar was set very high for the next 10 years. Home Alone and the sequel set in New York two years later captured the essence of Christmas mischief and family love.
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993) brought Tim Burton’s gothic charm to the holidays. Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (1999), starring Jim Carrey, reimagined a classic book and animated television special as a live-acton film. “The Santa Clause” (1994) introduced Tim Allen as Santa, and “Jingle All the Way” (1996) satirized the frenzy of toy shopping.
I watched “Home Alone” last weekend while taking care of a few holiday-related chores, and I’m sure it was just the first of multiple viewings between now and New Year’s … along with “It’s a Wonderful Life” … which, while NOT a 90s film, is also worth watching over and over again!
