My favorite pop music decade will complement the usual eclectic mix of decades and genres you’ve come to know and love on The Viking Diaries Outloud.
This week’s playlist is the musical equivalent of raiding your older siblings’ CD collections when they weren’t looking. The lineup includes the quirky vibes of the B52s, the smoky depths of Deep Purple, the raw emotion of K’s Choice, the sunny pop of LEN, the soulful musings of Paula Cole (yes, Dawson’s Creek fans, *that* Paula Cole), and the timeless cool of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Each track feels like flipping through a yearbook filled with memories of butterfly clips, Doc Martens, and questionable fashion choices. (And yes, I am still famous for them.) LEN will transport you straight to a sun-soaked summer road trip, something many of us dream about in the 2nd half of January. The track from K’s Choice will have you staring out your bedroom window like you’re the lead in an indie film. And don’t even get me started on Tom Petty — his music is like a warm hug from your favorite denim jacket.
But why am I calling this episode of the show *90s Frosting on a Mixtape Cake*? Because the 90s were all about layers. The decade was a glorious mix of grunge and glitter, angst and optimism. And just like a good cake, this episode of TVDO promises to hit all the right notes: sweet, rich, and maybe even a little messy. Are you in?
